Finally opening on September 17 (Saturday)! Let's go to the nature and art contest "KENPOKU ART 2016"

The art festival "KENPOKU ART 2016" which we've introduced in an article before will finally start from September 17 (Saturday)! It is a grand festival where close to 100 groups of artists gather from about 20 different countries, taking place in the northern region of Ibaraki Prefecture (the local people call the northern region of the prefecture "KENPOKU").

You can experience the unexpected only an hour away from downtown

As the theme "Is it the ocean, the mountain, or art?" states, the northern region is Ibaraki Prefecture is full of nature. Although it is only about an hour by car or train to the central city Mito from downtown, a distance close enough for one-day trips, it is filled with unexpected sceneries, with the beautiful coastline to the east and the mystical mountain range to the west. Its beauty is called "an 'unsoiled world' that is being protected like a beautiful gem" by artists overseas.

"KENPOKU ART 2016" is the largest scale art festival in Japan, featuring this grand "nature." This art festival follows the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial and the Setouchi Triennale in popularity. Starting with Chiaki Hayashi who will respresent our company as the communication director, Loftwork Inc. will be in charge of making the official website, posters, and original goods.

Check these before you head out! Bus tours and recommended route for tourists to follow

The exhibition hall is scattered in a vast area that is 2.6 times(!) the size of the 23 Wards of Tokyo. The area is roughly separated into the "ocean side" and the "mountain side," so it is essential to sufficiently plan your route before you make your tour.

You should head out after checking the area map and access map from various parts of Japan, the digest bus tour (paid service) that takes you to all the main venues in one day, and the bus timetable. You can be assured if you download and print the access guide and the venue map that contains the exhibition hall and the artists.
The official website introduces recommended route for tourists of different age/gender/interest to follow. It might be fun to visit in conjunction with events that anyone can participate in for free such as the eve of the festival to be held on September 16 (Friday) or the "Curry Caravan" that will go around each KENPOKU area starting from September 30.

There is an artwork you can experience before you go

For those who cannot go to KENPOKU right now, there is an artwork you can experience. That is the theme song of the art festival that Etsuko Yakushimaru of Soutaiseiriron was in charge of. A microorganism with the music she composed integrated into its DNA is being exhibited at FabCafe MTRL in Dogenzaka, Shibuya, and will be distributed worldwide on September 17. If you thought, "The theme song is a microorganism?", please see this article for further details.

It will be an experience where you can meet beautiful nature and warm people, as well as an unknown world. New information will be updated on the official website and on Facebook. Please make a trip to KENPOKU on the weekend!
