The 8th FabCafe in the world has opened in Strasbourg!

The 8th FabCafe in the world opened in Strasbourg, France in December 2016.

FabCafe Strasbourg is the second FabCafe to open in France, and the 8th store to open worldwide. Other stores are in Tokyo (Japan, 2012), Taipei (Taiwan, 2013), Barcelona (Spain, 2014), Bangkok (Thailand, 2015), Toulouse (France, 2015), Hida (Japan, 2016), and Singapore (Singapore, 2016).

Strasbourg in France is close to the border with Germany and Switzerland, and is an area booming with digital fabrication like Basel or Zurich.FabCafe Strasbourg was opened on the first floor of Shadok, a facility to support the entrepreneurs and creative projects of the area. An FabLab AvLab, Conference Room and Bar have also moved into the same facility.

With FabCafe Strasbourg as the base, and the cooperation of local partners – the architectural design studio, 'Ateliers BAH', Jérémie Bellot, the co-founder of digital art company AV Exciters, and Communication Manager Noe Milesi, proficient in computational design and building regions – we can hope for much more stronger ties in the digital fabrication area in Asia and Europe.

About FabCafe

The word, 'Fab' has two meanings. One is 'FABrication', (handicrafts) – to not be restricted by mass production or market logic, and the other is 'FABulous' (pleasant, great). The FabCafe is a place that aims to inform and spread this 'Fab' spirit in a fun, easy to understand and enjoyable fashion.

FabCafe is a creative handicraft cafe which has digital machinery on hand. Loftwork Inc. and Toshiya Kanda (Creative Director) produced this concept, with the very first FabCafe opening in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan in March 2012. It has been gaining attention worldwide due to the way it gathers creative people and fans into its creative community via its specialty coffee and digital handicrafts.

But the FabCafe, open in various cities across the world, is not a franchise store of Loftwork Inc. If someone has empathy with the FabCafe concept, and meets the conditions stated, then they too can independently open and manage a FabCafe.
FabCafe will change the next generation of handicrafts.
